Global Fund for Children

Maya Ajmera founded the Global Fund for Children in 1993 to provide seed money to community-based organizations that help at-risk children across the world. "Education is the key to getting human beings out of poverty," says Ajmera. In recognition of her work, Ajmera was chosen by The Rotary Foundation Trustees to receive the 2013-14 Rotary Foundation Global Alumni Service to Humanity Award. She will receive the honor at the Rotary International Convention in Sydney on 3 June.

Cape Rotary Club Celebrates 50 Years

In today's segment we look at Cape Rotary Club, 50 years in the making! Hosting the 50th anniversary at the yacht club was to remember the Rotary Club's origins and to reminisce on how far it has come. The mission of the club is to give all the money it receives back to Cape Coral in ways that will gather and benefit the community. In total, the Rotary has given about $2 million back to the community over the years.

The World's Biggest Commercial, Rotary's public awareness campaign for polio eradication, set a Guinness World Record for largest photo awareness campaign. More than 100,000 people from 170 countries have uploaded their photos, including Bill Gates, Archie Panjabi, Jackie Chan, and many more. But the biggest news was the $101 million pledged to polio eradication. Read more about this great accomplishment click here.

Rotaract Helps Moncton

After the everlasting manhunt which took place in Moncton, New Brunswick three RCMP officers lost their lives in the line of duty. This was where the Rotary Club of Moncton stepped in, in partnership with Mobile Giving Foundation and the RCMP Foundation. Together they set up a program which allows mobile phone users to donate money to the families of the slain officers! In the first 30 minutes $12 000 were raised!

Check out this week's Rotary in the news segment! Rotary teams up with museum for Peace Ride! The Portage Rotary Club has teamed up with the Fort la Reine Museum to hold a Motorcycle Peace Ride on Sunday. The organizations are splitting the funds raised, the museum’s portion will go towards the cost of the peace exhibit and the Rotary Club’s portion will go towards international peace projects.

About 300 miles south of Ciudad Juarez, one of Mexico's most dangerous cities, is the small town of Guerrero in central Chihuahua. Walter Branson, a member of the Rotary Club of Brazosport, Texas, in the United States, has been involved with the clinic since 1983 to treat the poor who have been affected by drug war.

Nigeria is closer than ever to eradicating polio, riding a successful effort to reach children in seven northern states at highest risk for the disease! "Rotarians have [gone] into remote areas of the country by car, canoe, motorbike, and even on foot to ensure every child gets the vaccine," says Rotary's Nigeria PolioPlus Committee Chair Tunji Funsho.

The Artesia Rotary Club is declaring Aug. 12 Rotary International Day in Artesia! The proclamation was issued by Mayor Phillip Burch at City Hall with several Rotary members in attendance.
