General Meeting #4: Critical Thinking Workshop

On February 6, 2014, students were challenged to step off the well-worn path of conventional thinking at the Critical Thinking Workshop hosted by David Miller. A high school teacher at Earl Haig Secondary School, David Miller introduced concepts of interaction, creativity and lateral thinking through activities and discussions that helped students think "outside the box." It was a rewarding presentation, as students learned skills that were applicable to both the school and the workplace. At the end of the Critical Thinking Workshop, all participants were awarded a Certification of Participation.

This workshop was designed to couple with Rotaract's first annual Conflict Resolution Case Competition, held on February 22, 2014. The case competition was an extension of Mr. Miller's workshop, with an emphasis on application.

General Meeting #5: Public Speaking Workshop

The Public Speaking Workshop was conducted by Arya Khanal, an executive member of the marketing team at Rotaract Club of YorkU on March 18, 2014. Including a powerpoint, interactive activities and multimedia video clips, this workshop pushed the limits of general members to develop their public speaking abilities, the number one greatest fear in North America! Participants were forced to think on the spot as they stepped out of their comfort zone.

This general meeting was the last general meeting of the 2013-2014 school year. Therefore, this meeting also celebrated the efforts of Rotaract volunteers, with several receiving certificates for their distinguished work.
